The Star City poultry science class has had some great production in the chicken pen lately. We donate about eighteen to twenty dozen eggs each week to the local food pantry, called Lend a Hand. Lend a Hand food pantry is located in Star City and are always happy to receive eggs to donate to those less fortunate in the community.
The class recently got a new egg washing system. This system operates out of a plastic bucket with a metal basket and an air compressor that stirs the water. We put some egg washing solution into the warm water and it cleanses them. After the 10 minute cycle the eggs are rinsed of with water and packaged. Before all eggs had to be washed by hand and now we can wash several in the washer at a time. With the chickens laying over two hundred eggs a week time is crucial when washing and packaging the eggs. The egg washer has really helped increase our productivity and has given us the ability to donate more at a faster rate.
It's a blessing being able to help those in need. Community service is something everyone needs to take part in there is always someone who needs help.If you are more fortunate than others build a longer table, not a taller fence. Give back and receive more.We won't be able to help everyone but everyone can help someone.
