Senior, Bryan Sweet has been playing for the Star City Bulldogs for three years. On Thursday, November 3rd, Star City High School Senior Night was held at the high school football field in Star City, Arkansas. Bryan felt as if he performed pretty great during that game because he gave it his all. However, he was sad to be playing his very last high school football game. What he will miss most about playing will be his teammates, the feeling of being under Friday night lights, and Bulldog Breakfast. He has not always been a football player, but 3 years ago, he was inspired to be. “All of my friends were playing and I knew that when I became a senior, I wanted to play side by side with my younger brother,” said Bryan. His biggest accomplishment as a Bulldog was being able to tackle the quarterback in the Dewitt game. The biggest challenge that he faced as a Bulldog was being shorter than the rest of the team and taking on Crossett for Senior Night. The best advice he has ever received from his coaches throughout playing football was “stay low and play with swagger,” quoted by Coach Davis. His advice to future high school football players is to never give up and play as long as you can because it goes by quick, just like it did for him.

I interviewed Randa Jacks, senior cheerleader, Captain of the Star City High Cheer Squad. She has been cheering on the Bulldogs for 4 consecutive years now, and says that this past football season has been bittersweet and challenging as she was the only senior to return, leaving her with no Co-Captain. She elaborates on the squad's progress, each game they performed better than the last. She was inspired by all of the Senior High Cheerleaders when she was in elementary. Her advice to any upcoming cheerleaders is to cherish memories, work hard, and have fun. She was emotional at Senior Night, it became surreal when it was time to end the game with “We Are The Dogs” realizing that was her last football game, she wasn’t able to end the cheer. “Cheer is more than just being on the sidelines at football and basketball games.” Randa wanted to finish football season by saying, “no matter how busy and hectic cheerleading gets, remember to always have fun and make the most of it because it will end faster than you realize.”

SENIOR NIGHT

The SCHS Ladydogs had another record-setting season.  The Ladydogs were undefeated in conference play and were champions in the OBU Tournament, Heber Springs Holiday Classic, District Tournament and Regional Tournament as well.

Very few can say they have accomplished what this group of seniors has.  The LadyDog Seniors have not lost a game on their home court since 8th grade.  Under the leadership of Coach Becky Yarbrough and new assistant, Ian Biggs, the Ladydogs extend their impressive conference win streak to 131.  These girls work hard year round and we're proud of them.

"We've been through it all, the good, the bad.  We ran numerous line drills and sprints, and threatened to quit at least once a week.  We are a family and we never gave up on each other.  I'm proud to have been part of a team like this." - Jessica Beatty
