AP Exam Season

The arrival of the month of May tends to bring about a certain level of excitement and anticipation because it is the last month of the school year. The long awaited month of May is welcomed with open arms, even more so than November, December, and March. Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break and Spring Break are nothing compared to the three month reprieve that month of May alludes to and that Summer brings.
Although May brings to mind shorts, bonfires, and late nights, some forget that May also brings about advanced placement exams. Everyone looks forward to Summer, but I doubt anyone actually looks forward to taking the advanced placement exams. Students seeking challenging courses or a crutch for their grade point average sign up for advanced placement classes at the beginning of the year, but there is a catch; students are required to be present the day of testing to gain the weighted credit. If that’s not enough of an incentive, students are also fed pizza for lunch. Personally, pizza at the end of the year is not enough consolation for me to endure a year in an advanced placement course, but it is something to look forward to during testing.
The advanced placement exams typically take place during the first two weeks of May, with some exams occurring throughout the morning and others during the afternoon. With students in a separate building, testing, they are absent from the majority of their classes, but that is only a small price to pay if they achieve a qualifying score on their exams - saving time and money in the long run.
Students interested in making an investment in their future and who are prepared for rigorous and challenging courses should most definitely consider enrolling in advanced placement courses, regardless of the dread that they may bring.
